Then I finish them with a lightroom profile then print (if printing) with photoshop then scale recompose with GIMP then change the exif data to encript ownership/copyright information depending on the destination. Now that Adobe has moved us to the 'New World Order', er I mean, the Creative Cloud, I'm thinking of switching the LR step to Darktable or RawTherapee.I also use heavy duty noise reducer like Topaz in some cases but it is rare now that I don't use Nikon aps/c cameras anymore. They've probably improved as well FWIW. For the moment I only use my K3 with the RAW files. But it is said in the doc that Capture One has a profile for K3 PEF files. I'll test it when I will have some time. For the classic RAW file however, I can confirm that the red channel is a little too high at least in the highlight so I often (always?) lower it with the curve tool.I really don't see why bother whith the red channel from Pentax files however.
Nikon had some greenish yellowish cast (I didn't try the last ones.) and Canon was known for their low dynamic range. Each brand has their good and bad points.
The perfect camera is the one you're happy to shoot whith. One week ago, I was preparing some pics for an exhibition.
When printed, K3 files processed by COne and K5 files processed by LR are both great. You couldn't see the difference. I print in 20x30 inches.Honestly LR is great. It only lack the mask ability from COne. And the sharpening is easier in COne.
But organising your pics is easier in LR and you can add text on your pics, make books, and it's cheaper.Edit: The RAW demosaicing in COne is 'crispier' than in LR I think. I bought COne for that reason after testing it. But now, after looking back at some files in LR, I found the demosaicing in LR is more 'natural'. Honestly, test COne because you can have a free tial version and make your own thinking. Valeriu 64 wrote:Dear Francois, your pictures in amazing. Is take with Pentax K-5?Regards, ValeriuThanks! On my wordpress? There is a lot of K3 and GR (concert, recording session, london), Sigma and some film photo.I have the K3 since his release. So I don't use the K5 for nearly 3-4 years.By the way, I was a long time DxO user (from v6 to v8 if I remember).
Great software BUT it was lacking local retouching at that time. I don't know if they have made it better but it was for that reason that I go to LR. DxO noise reducing is great but with actual sensor, I think the one from LR and COne are good enough.

Many RAW converters are very confusing and unpleasant to use.I have tried a few and I'm simply not letting go of LR.
I enjoy this workflow.I don't know much about Pentax IQ because I have never used one, but to me it looks like this red chl ussue is being taken way too seriously and out of proportion. I mean, fuji has the same issue with the red, one of THE best camera for color, but I have never seen, or noticed a bad photo regarding the red.Heck, they are saying that the red on the new Xpro2 is not right either.Simply make a small adjustment in PP for the red and move on.
I don't think you need a whole new RAW converter just for that. It doesn't make much sense.
It's kinda hard what'll work best for you.I use Lr and like Adobe's rather neutral RAW conversion outta the box. I tried Capture One, and it was just a bit too the other direction for me, although I liked that more with my Olympus RAW files. But overall it was a much much more limited program for organizing, despite what it did nicely with RAW. At the end of the day one can vary the default settings in any RAW processor to pretty much get similar results.
Some have tools like Lr's Dehaze or DxO's Clearview that are rather unique, or adaptive contrast and exposure. And of the course the interface matters. Just try 'em all.And don't forget the Photoshop part of the package; it's the standard. Not to mention all the plugins and educational material.I also use DxO, which works really well as a pluging with Lr since it can send RAWs back to Lr. It's especially good with lens corrections too. If you have a Mac, Macphun's excellent tools can do that as well. Because of that I don't use Nik stuff as often. The DCU software is horrid.
I'd use in camera tools before that; maybe it's better on a PC but I doubt it. For pixel shift images I've taken to using the dcraw variant that does pixel shift; it's very handy. But Adobe's basic rendering is pretty good. Valeriu 64 wrote:Hi folks. These days we were all talked about the red channel of the photos taken with Pentax. Many say they are not satisfied with Adobe. What would be the best photo editing software for PEF format?I've used Photoshop/ACR from when I bought my.istD. Ive used Lightroom since it first ran on Windows as well.I criticised Adobe's camera profiles.
But I make those problems go away by creating my own profiles. Then I am happy with those Adobe products.(I subscribe to the full 'Adobe Creative Cloud'. I'm comfortable with it). Based on most comparisons, you are right that LR, C1 and DxO are clearly the market leaders. For better than a decade, I went back and forth between LR and C1 (never tried DxO).
Since versions 8 and 9, I've been solidly in the C1 camp. The speed, detail, NR, dynamic range, color accuracy and Pentax profiles are extremely good. For high ISO situations, the film grain selections added in v9 are very useful.
If you are into great skin tones, C1 excels. LR has an advantage regarding organization, plug-ins and most people prefer the workflow (possibly just a matter of familiarity). There seems to be a magenta issue with LR and Pentax, at least I've struggled with it.The red channel issue, IMHO, is mostly a red herring.
Pentax insists on the Bright setting as default (possibly favored by the Asian market, but it seems extreme to me), and the result is blowout. It can be tamed rather easily in LR, or any other converter presumably. As others have said, test out the various programs. I don't think the differences in quality are huge, but how well you identify with the workflow and master key operations are the most important factors. That's the main source of disagreement, I suspect.
Even worse, the slide can no longer be moved to the side to accommodate the note space so that you can view the slide and notes fully and simultaneously side-by-side. Not only that, but every time I minimize the application to jump on safari powerpoint restarts completely, and I lose my place in the slides. These complaints may not seem like a huge deal, but for someone who is in PA school and sits through 6 hour lectures, these are huge disappointments and annoyances. I’ve used powerpoint since I began college 6 years ago, but I will be using another app if these problems aren’t fixed soon. Download powerpoint for mac.
